Post-treatment of powder metallurgy can prevent rusting of processed parts, improve their wear resistance, precision, etc. So, what are the post-treatment methods of powder metallurgy?
Method 1: Enhance the precision of processed parts
Usually, the sintered parts are placed in a shaping die with a structure similar to that of the pressing die, and another pressing process is carried out on the press. This post-processing method can improve the dimensional accuracy of the processed parts and reduce the surface roughness of the parts.
Method 2: Oil immersion treatment of the parts
After sintering, powder metallurgy processing parts are placed in hot oil at 100-200ºC or the oil is allowed to seep into the pores of the powder processing parts under vacuum. This post-treatment method can prevent the parts from rusting and improve their wear resistance.
Method 3: Enhance the wear resistance of parts
Iron-based powder metallurgy parts are treated in steam at 500-600ºC to form a hard and dense oxide film on the inner and outer surfaces of the parts. This method can enhance the wear resistance of the parts after powder metallurgy processing and also prevent the parts from rusting.
